Thymus- and bursa-dependent areas in duck lymph nodes.

چکیده
The thymus (T)-and bursa (BF)-dependent areas of the duck lymph node were histologically examined by means of chemical bursectomy using cyclophosphamide-treatment , surgical thymectomy, and/or X-ray irradiation. The T-dependent area was represented by the deep area of lymphatic nodules comprised of small lymphocytes. The BF-dependent one was represented by lymphatic cords consisting of small and medium-sized lymphocytes, and possibly by germinal centers. On the other hand, the para-sinusoidal area of lymphatic nodules and the existence of plasma cells seemed to be independent from both the thymus and the bursa of Fabricius. The relationship between avian and mammalian lymph nodes was discussed with special reference to T-, BF-, and bone marrow (BM)-dependent systems.

Hyperactive cellular immune responses produce autoimmune and other immune-mediated diseases while hypoactive cell-mediated immunity
Immune competence is provided and maintained by two cellular systems which involve lymphocytes, produced by the body's primary (bone marrow and thymus) and secondary (lymph nodes and spleen) lymphatic organs. They are descendants of the bone marrow's pool of stem cells, and constitute a circulating or humoral immune system derived from B-cells (bursa-dependent or bone marrow derived), and a cel...

On the other hand, studies in postnatal development of mouse lymph nodes have been reported by ARGyR.[s, MAssHoFF & GRoss and TANABAsHI. Recently, contrary to the theory that lymphocytes disseminate from the fetal or neonatal thymus to other lymphatie tissues, PARRoTT et al. pointed out the existence of thymus-dependent areas in the spleen and the lyrnph nodes of neonatally thymectomized mice, ...
متن کاملThymus-dependent Areas in the Lymphoid Organs of Neonatally Thymectomized Mice
Specific areas of lymphocyte depletion, termed thymus-dependent areas, have been delineated in neonatally thymectomized C3H/Bi and F(1) (C57BL x C3H/Bi) mice. They occur within the lymphoid follicles of the spleen immediately surrounding the central arterioles, and constitute the mid and deep cortical zones of the lymph nodes. These depleted areas appear in healthy thymectomized mice as early a...
متن کاملMechanisms of genetic resistance to Friend virus leukemia in mice. II. Resistance of mitogen-responsive lymphocytes mediated by marrow- dependent cells
Friend leukemia virus suppresses the proliferative responses of normal thymus-dependent (T) and bursa equivalent-dependent (B) lymphocytes from spleen, thymus, lymph node, and bone marrow to mitogens. The suppressive effect of Friend virus complex (FV) requires fully infectious virions. Friend erythroleukemic cells, washed to removed extracellular virus, fail to suppress concanavalin A (Con-A)-...
متن کاملThe structure of the bursa of Fabricius in wild birds.
B. Glick et all,2 found that the antibody-producing ability is markedly re duced when the bursa of Fabricius (abbreviated as BF) of the newly-hatched chick is removed. Thus the function of this organ which is specific for birds received a great deal of attention. With the comparative study of bursectomy and thymectomy, it has been ascertained that the BF and the thymus play distinctive roles in...
